BLIND PIG RECORDS ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY RELEASES
Blind Pig Records has announced a February 7, 2012 release date for new CDs from Contino and Big James and the Chicago Playboys.
Contino "Back Porch Dogma"
Contino is an eclectic roots music quintet of highly accomplished musicians whose talent and synergy create an extraordinary sound. With their unique fusion of influences and instrumentation, they have crafted a lively and distinctive mixture of blues, Americana, rockabilly, and zydeco. The group's unique blend of roots music styles has earned rave reviews and an ever-growing fan base in both North America and Europe.
Contino was formed in 2009 with a mission of writing songs that are "outside the box, yet authentic." All the band members were involving in writing the nine original compositions on Back Porch Dogma, which also features a guest appearance on a Contino-penned track by noted vocalist Maria Muldaur. The four covers include tunes from Tom Waits and the legendary songwriting team of Leiber and Stoller.
If the band name seems familiar, Pete Contino is the son of legendary accordionist and singer Dick Contino, a hugely successful performer who appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show" a record 48 times, and the man who made "Lady of Spain" a No. 1 hit.

Big James and the Chicago Playboys "The Big Payback"
Led by trombonist Big James Montgomery, the Chicago Playboys are a horn- driven, disciplined juggernaut of hard-hitting blues, R&B, sweet soul and serious funk that has drawn comparisons to James Brown's rhythm-intensive backing band.
The Big Payback was recorded live at the legendary Lionel Hampton Jazz Club in Paris in November, 2010. James and the band perform with an infectious enthusiasm and verve, and the crowd responds in kind. In addition to three of James's blues-tinged original tunes, the program ranges from the killer James Brown groove of the title cut to the soul classic "Trying To Live My Life Without You," a couple of Magic Sam gems, George Clinton's "I'll Stay," to the funky, set closing instrumental version of Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water."
Big James and the Chicago Playboys have won the Prix Blues award from the Académie du Jazz in Paris, and are five time winners of the Living Blues magazine annual Critics' Poll for "Most Outstanding Horns." Their high-energy soul and funk, steeped in Chicago's signature blues tradition, and delivered with an abundance of heart, is a joyous celebration of the great tradition of horn-powered blues ensembles.
