I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Jelly Jelly - Burning James and the Funky Flames
The soulful Burning James and groove timekeeping machine ChazMatisse met playing behind Reverend Kevin Williams on an original music project in 2007, the Believers. A year and a half later, when Kevin had to leave they looked at each other and said, "Now what?" and then the answer came, "James Brown!". They went looking for a drummer who could play on the 'one'. Not an easy task by any stretch, especially around this part of the central coast. One Wednesday night in October, 2009 at the Clubhouse blues jam, James met Rick Pittman who was the house drummer at the Jam. James was immediately impressed by Rick's lock down blues playing. On the break, Rick told James that his first band in junior high was the called the "Junior JBs". Jim texted Chaz... "I found the guy". They spent the next year or so trying to arrange schedules and obligations. The three of them then began looking for a horn section. James knew of Scott Andrews and approached him at the Rosie Ledet SLO BLues society show, and outlined the project to a skeptical Mr. Andrews. They arranged for a jam the following week and to the pleasant surprise of Scott, they laid down the nastiest groove to 'Cold Sweat' like the JBs themselves were playing it. They all knew right then that they were on to something. The quartet, lined up a few gigs, recorded a demo, got their good friend, the talented Terry Lawless to mix and master and the local blues guitar player great, Bruce Krupnik to play on it. The CD. "On Fiyo" complete with artwork by Dean Sullivan is here and for sale. The Funky Flames are being met with enthusiastic responses at all of their appearances.
