I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Mean Dog Blues - The Hips

We first started in 1975 as Spinifex and practiced in the Salters Point Scout Hall in Manning, South Perth.

Our next practice venue was the famous Belle Menzel Florist Shop at 171 William St. We used to practice in amongst the beautiful fragrance of roses, carnations and other olfactory sensations.

We regularly gigged in these days at two memorable venues. Albert's Tavern, which was downstairs on Murray St in Forrest Place. The second was at Obelia's which was in another basement off Murray St near Bethovan's night club. We must have been better at the underground venues. Hmm. Not sure about that...

We stopped gigging in 1977. Howie, John and Dave kept playing during that time.

At the request of John's wife, Claire, we got back together in January 2006. The reason for this was to play for John's 50th.

We loved it so much that we decided to keep going.
