New Release: JT Coldfire - Always and Never - Review
I'm sitting here listening to the new recording, Always and Never, by JT Coldfire and it's a real blisterer! This cd is to hit the street on April 4, 2012.... get ready! Get It On is a country blues fusion of sorts and is a real crap kicker. It's Alright With Me is a straight up Texas style blues honky tonk style. You get a real flavor of what JT is capable of on guitar but it's not till Rather Die In My Sleep that JT opens the flood gates and jumps on the heavy blues train. This is the kind of guitar infused blues that will take the paint off of the wall! Let's Go For A Drive is a laid back funky blues jam with cool guitar riffs and harp. Feelin' The Music is a song that appears to be the airplay track. It is well constructed and stays in bounds. Toast To A Bluesman is a gritty blues song grinding out with John Lee Hooker guitar riffs. Cool track. I'm The Best Thing That You Ever Had is a a great little blues tune. The vocals are soulful and the musicianship is great! Party Lovin' Pappa is more of a rock a billy song with strong harp overlay...just for fun. Tell Me Mama has it's roots in Sonny Boy Williamson. It has a great groove, nice double stops and cool harp! Tired Man's Blues is the grand finale. Coldfire used his guitar as a mirror to his voice which is always effective in blues. It's a cool wrap up to what I would suggest is a very strong recording.
