I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Blind Pig artist: Deanna Bogart - Pianoland - New Release Review
On August 28th Blind Pig Records will be releasing Pianoland, Deanna Bogart's latest recording. I have had the opportunity to review it and find it quite enjoyable. Bogart presents 6 new tracks on this 11 track recording opening with In The Rain, a bright, bouncy knee slapper. On And On And continues in a country blues fusion along the lines of CCR. Bogart does an exemplary job on Errol Garner's Boogie Woogie Boogie making the piano interlude sound as fresh as it did the day it was written. Willie Dixon's I Love The Life I Live gets a bit of swing and Bogart's piano is the perfect companion to her bluesy vocals and club set band sound. Pete Johnson's Death Ray Boogie is another hot number showing Bogarts exceptional dexterity and style on the piano. This track boogies! On the classic Over The Rainbow, Bogart really does an exemplary interpretation of the track making it sound fresh and understated. Since Jeff Beck did a rerun of this track a few years it has popped up in numerous places but this may be the best vocal interpretation that I've heard. Blues At 11 is a very strong blues based track and again demonstrates Bogart's remarkable capabilities on piano. The recording is completed by one of James Taylor's most remarkable tunes, Close Your Eyes. Bogart does a pretty straight cover of this track and it's as enjoyable each time that I hear it as the first.
If you like piano boogie and balladry, it's hard to miss with this release.
