After decades of full on band performances Bad Bob Bates now also performs solo – but it sounds like a full band!
Bad Bob solo will blow your mind. Full on dirty foot stompin’ blues, americana ballads that’ll have you crying in your beer and reworkings of songs you already know well. You’ll want him in your bar every week. Imagine Steve Earle and Sea Sick Steve meeting up with Tom Petty, Neil Young, John Lee Hooker and Howling Wolf for a full on party – then Lemmy, Billy Gibbons and Wilko Johnson crash it and drag in John Bonham.
BBB has fronted The Bandits (formerly The Rhythm Bandits – www.rhythm-bandits.co.uk ) since their inception in 1992. The Bandits play guitar based good time rock and boogie reminiscent of The Faces and George Thoroughgood at their height. BBB plays guitar and undertakes front vocals work while Whalebone Pete holds down the low end and also provides vocals. Brad Dolphin is the machine gunner sticksman at the back. “The best pub rock and bike rally band I’ve ever seen!”
Oil City Connection www.oilcityconnection.co.uk started up in 2009/10, reflecting BBB’s admiration for Wilko Johnson (classic era Dr Feelgood), Mick Green (The Pirates) and Nine Below Zero’s early punk fuelled r’n'b sound. Bob’s bruv Oil Slick Mick takes the vocals and harmonica role, with BBB on guitar and second vocals. After an early line up adjustment George Waters (The Bog G) now provides the drums and Gaz-O-Lene sorts out the bass lines. If you love Canvey Island and London based r’n'b this is the band for you.
