I just received Electric Sunset, a pre release set of tracks from Rolan Bolan, son of T Rex leader Marc Bolan and Motown songwriter Gloria Jones and it's quite interesting. Opening with Trust, relaxed R&B pop track Bolan shows a strong capability to not only compose but perform at top level. With only strummed chords and vocals, this track is read for the airwaves. Children Of Revolution comes out hitting hard but circling back with a solid hook, strong vocals and a cool guitar riff. Only preliminary information is available so I don't know who plays drums or bass but this track rocks. Operator, another rock ballad has that certain radio hit feel but edgy guitar work with a bit of a twang and vocals that have a melody but a rap rhythm in parts. Good Souls is really well written showing strong melodic characteristics. It has an interesting mix of rock beat, pop vocals and strings under the track. The final track on the pre release is Rolling On, another R&B based track with rhythmic singing. This package shows strong opportunities for mass appeal.
