Alpha Sun Records artist: Bridget Kelly Band - Winter's Coming - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Winter's Coming, by Bridget Kelly Band and it's a solid blues rocker. Opening with title track, Winter's Coming Blues V.1, a romping shuffle with a droning bass line and hot guitar lead by Tim Fik, Kelly on vocal and Roland "Boss" Jones on drums. Funk rocker, Whirlwind has a great driving beat and solid melody. I like Fik's energetic guitar lead and Jones' drum beat keeps it tight. My favorite track on the release. Southern flavored rocker, Travelin' Bone has a great Lynyrd Skynyrd swagger. Contrasted with Kelly's bluesy vocals, Fik and Jones drive this truck hard. Wrapping the release is instrumental track, Ride The Wind with it's more progressive jazz rock sound. Fik lays down a pretty nice lead guitar solo over the thumping drum work of Jones for a solid closer.

Alpha Sun Records artist: Bridget Kelly Band - Dark Spaces - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Dark Spaces, from the Bridget Kelly Band and it's a strong blues rocker. Opening with Free Me, a sturdy blues rocker with Kelly on lead vocal and Tim on Fik on guitar, the band gets off to a good start with a good melody, and constant solid lead guitar work. Low slung title track, Dark Spaces gives Kelly a nice forum to showcase her vocals and Fik, who lays down constant and fluid lead lines to show his stuff. Very nice. I really like Fik's electric slide tones on Find My Way Back Home, with it's rural, flowing natural sound. Another track that i really liked was Things About To Change with sweet vocals by Kelly and well honed guitar lead by Fik. Ballad, Moments is sure to be to crowd favorite with strong vocal lead by Kelly and plenty of space for Fik to play ultra soulful lead guitar. Very nice. Another track with soaring lead is No Use In Tryin' and Fik really does a nice job playing fluid, expressive, blues lines. Kelly's vocals are clean and genuine. This is my favorite track on the release. Wrapping the release is Your Days Are Numbered with sassy lead work by Kelly and solid interplay with Fik. This is a strong closer for a solid release.

Alpha Sun Records artists: Bridget Kelly Band - Blues Warrior - New release review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Blues Warrior, by the Bridget Kelly Band and it's cool. Opening with Lil' Honey Bee, an up tempo shuffle, lead guitar player Tim Fik wastes no time in showing his guitar prowess. Kelly has the lead on vocal backed by Mark Armbrecht on bass and Alex Klausner on drums. Good opener. I like Fik's finesse and dynamics on Stolen, a bluesy ballad featuring Kelly's lead vocals, Mike Hamm on bass and Michael Barady on drums. With it's droning bass line by Armbrecht, No Good Man Blues is one of my favorite tracks on the release with a solid melody and rich guitar lead. Another of my favorites is Alone with its twist on Robert Johnson's Crossroads. Fik powers up in this track showing is pyrotechnical capabilities but it's the basic groove on this track that hits home. Trouble In Texas has a driving boogie beat with traces of Johnny Winter and Billy Gibbons. Jimi influenced Let's Go has a cool flair and Fik again lets it out. He and Kelly balance nicely and Klausner on drums is really tight. Little Mike Markowitz is featured on Blues Inside of Me and his harp work is smoking, stirring the flames under Fik who trades flaming hot riffs. Wrapping the release is Chemo, dedicated to Grandma Kelly, Joyce Hanken and Candye Kane. Kelly's vocals are more focused on this track that anywhere else on the release and Fik is hot as a firecracker making this a solid closer for a solid release.

Alpha Sun Records artist: The Bridget Kelly Band - Bone Rattler - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Bone Rattler, from the Bridget Kelly Band and it is a rocking blues party. Opening disc one with Ain't Missin' You, Kelly on lead vocal and Tim Fik on guitar gets this release rocking with Mark Armbrecht on bass and Alex Klausner on drums. What You Need is a blues rocker with attitude and influences of Johnny Winter are obvious in Fik's playing. Nice slow cooker, No Good For Me has the skeleton of T-Bone Walker with rich vocals by Kelly and real nice guitar soloing by Fik. Very nice.  Leavin' On Sunday has a cool, funky rhythm and guitar with phazer giving it a Trower flavor. Bluesy ballad, Deeper Than Blue gives Fik lots of space to wail and he makes good use of it with a creative blues intro. Introspective vocals by Kelly make this one of the standout tracks.

Disc two opens with The Dark Night and features Fik on vocal. With a dark overtone and abundant use of vibrato, Fik's guitar really carries this track. Standard blues formatting is the key to Mr. Gaines, with RB Stone on harp and Fik on slide guitar and vocal. Borrowing a few from Jimi, In My Sorrow has a cool 70's vibe. Hambone hits a real nice groove with a bouncy bottom and clean guitar soloing under Fik's vocals throughout. Very cool. Driving rocker, Bad Tornado delivers and Fik is again showing Winter influences. Very nice. Swinging jazzy tune, Cat's Out Of The Bag is a lot of fun with Fik stepping out on his riffs and bright vocal from Kelly. Cool track. Wrapping the release is Your Limo-zeen, a heavy bottomed boogie. Definite nods to ZZ Top and snarling guitar leads makes this a cool closer for an enjoyable release.

Alpha Sun Records artist: Bridget Kelly Band - Outta The Blues - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Outta The Blues, from the Bridget Kelly Band and it's a cool rocking blues party. Opening with Gonna Stay Here, a blues rock shuffle based loosely on Statesboro Blues. Featuring Bridget Kelly on lead vocal, Alex Klausner on drums, Mark Armbrecht on bass and Tim Fik on guitar, this is a solid opener. Digging into deeper blues, Spellbound, features Fik showing some of his prize riffs, making you sweat and with Kelly's warm vocals this is one of my favorite tracks on the release. With nice rhythm guitar work under a clean guitar opener, If You See My Baby, has a Doobies feel making is quite a danceable rocker. Fik shows his SRV side with some hot fanning guitar riffs. Shuffle track, Sweet River Blues, may be one of Kelly's best vocal outings on the release with pure blues feel. Very nice! Baltimore Woes has a more contemporary rock feel with Stevie Nicks like phrasing. Fik's stylistic soloing on this track is very nice as is the bass runs by Armbrecht. Dancin' With The Blues is a straight up blues rocker with solid vocals and guitar refrain. Dangerous Man has an easy driving beat with a cool guitar line augmented by tight drumming by Klausner. Willie Dixon style, Up and Gone/Smokestack Lightning is a real nice rumble with Kelly leading the charge with aggressive vocals. The band is tight and Fik's slide work slick. Very nice! Lonely Night In June is a cool R&B style track with feelings of Christine McVie and Etta James. Fik's sensitive guitar melodies are nicely crafted. A cool bluesy track, this one should see strong airplay. When The Nighttime Comes has a cool BB King meets SRV feel with Fik on lead vocals. This track has a gritty sound that stands it apart in a good way. Driving ricker, Hard Times In The City, has a very memorable melody and strong guitar undertones. Blues shuffle, Double Crossed, is a free wheeling take on a traditional blues standard. Fik's guitar riffs are loose and energetic and Kelly's vocals are solids. Wrapping the release is Rocket to the Moon with a funky edge. Nice bluesy vocals, a strong bass line, solid guitar riffs and tight drumming sum it up.

Alpha Sun Records artist: Bridget Kelly Band - Forever in Blues - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Forever in Blues, from Bridget Kelly Band. Opening with cool blues number, I'll Be Missin' You, bassist Mike Hamm sets up a cool bass line for Kelly's supple vocals. Tim Fik plays clean and unrelenting guitar riffs throughout. Blues In the Kitchen has a Dire Straits kind of feel with stinging blues guitar riffs. Texas Toast is a perfect set up for guitarist Fik to show his hand displaying Johnny Winter like dexterity at times. A slow loping boogie, this track is one of the cooler tracks on the release. Jazzy feeling I'll Take The Blues lets Kelly sit back in the vocals and sing with ease. Fik throws down some really cool blues riffs keeping it tight with Michael Barady on drums. I Live Alone is a easy paced 12 bar number and Kelly puts out a Bonnie Raitt kind of phrasing. On Take Me Home Blues, written over the basic "Help Me" riff, Kelly and Fik trade the spotlight. Not at all bashful to show his chops, Fik contains his fluid machine gun guitar approach showing a more melodic soloing style. Forever Little Girl is set over a basic blues 12 bar riff and Fik has a cool little riff that he puts in as an accent showing control and taste. Opening the can he lets it all out with some really electric bursts of fire. Title track, Forever in Blues, is a slow ballad along the lines of Gary Moore and working well for a band such as this. Kelly does a nice job of delivering and Fik lays it all out there. Very nice! He Lied To Me is a shuffle track a cool driving bass line. Fleet fingers Fik really tears it up on this one and Kelly rides the wave. Goin' To Memphis has a real nice opening guitar riff with cool double stops and Winter like tones. Another of my favorite tracks on the release, this track swings. Tall Man has a slow, Fool For Your Stockings" approach and Kelly grabs a hold of the track vocally and shakes it. You Left Me Cryin' has a definite R&B feel and a slice of Elvis via Artie Glenn. Nice guitar work by Fik ices a smooth cake. Everyday Without You is a cool slow blues with some time to jam. Rolling in over 7 minutes, gives the band a chance to stretch with a male vocal lead. A really nice bass line from Hamm sets a real nice road for Fik to drive over. His chops are alive and strong. Meaningful blues lines and expressive phrasing is the key to this track. Very nice. Wrapping the release is When The Blues Comes Around,  an uptempo shuffle with crisp guitar work and again male lead vocals. Fik unleashes the dog on this last track and Kelly trades lead vocals as well. This is a cool release without a lot of hot attributes. Check it out if you can.
