    Dave recently returned to teach and preach the Gospel of the Blues at Down 2 The Crossroads in Clarksdale, Mississippi. The five-day guitar and bass 'retreat' offered a full immersion in the Blues for Blues Guitar and Bass players of all levels, taking place in the heart of the land where the Blues began, at the rustic, famed Shack Up Inn.  

   Widow is a guitarist-singer-songwriter whose most recent album, "Waiting For The World To End" was voted in the "Top 5 Best Self-Produced CDs" category by the prestigious IBC (International Blues Challenge) in Memphis last year and which continues to receive steady airplay on "B.B. King's Bluesville" heard over Sirius XM. The Los Angeles-based Widow reguarly performs as Dave Widow & The Lineup with some of the best musicians in the business, and is a past "Musical Group of the Year" nominee (2012 L.A. Music Awards).

   "Waiting For The World To End" was recently part of a high-profile Spring KKJZ 88.1 FM Pledge Drive that featured an Apple I-Pod Shuffle/2-G loaded with the albums of eight area Indie Blues artists, given to those who made a $200.00 pledge to the Long Beach station. Waiting For The World To End - Dave Widow And The Line Up - New Release Review

I just received a copy of the new release Waiting For The World To End by Dave Widow And The Line Up and it pretty interesting. Widow has assembled a great band including Reggie McBride, Gary Mallaber, Mike Finnegan, Bill Champlin, Barry Goldberg and a crew of outstanding horns and vocalists and they demonstrate their broad background on this stellar party cd. First up is Bluesman, a slow swinging boogie with horns, guitar and keys. Dave has a cool voice for this style of music and the band gets right into the groove right from the start. Keyboard ace Mike Finnegan lays down some organ right up front and Marty Grebb is out there on the Bari Sax with Widow laying down some pretty hot guitar licks himself. I love party blues music and I can't help thinking Crabshaw is gonna burst in any minute. Leave A Piece Of Me has a bit of R&B, a bit of rock and a bit of soul bringing forward a track that is likely to hit the airwaves. I usually am not at all drawn to songs that use "cheater hooks" to grab the fan but Piss You Off is just a great track. What I mean is I typically find that artists use words or hooks to artificially grab the audience's favor but this is actually a great track. The horns are strong,the vocals sound heartfelt and it's a straight up blues track with a strong guitar solo ... and the words aren't used gratuitously but with purpose. Nice job! Reach Out is soul stye ballad and the melody is strong, the background singers are great and Widow adds guitar riffs sparingly as needed. Nothin' On You has a cool funk rhythm again with a strong instrumental groove and the backing vocals are right on. Wait On Love is another strong composition with cohesive arrangement, solid vocals and well orchestrated instrumental compliments throughout. I Look For Things Like That is another funk infused blues track that is bound to get you moving around in your seat. Widow has a knack for getting the train shaking and then throwing straw on the fire. Picture Of You is a really sweet little track along the lines of a classic ballad acoustically accompanied and light backing vocals. This is a really strong track... and I'm not a ballad guy. The title track, Waiting For The World To End, is another funk blues track and another track that will get you up and moving. It's almost like Widow just put a cd together to give you a reason to party. This recording is well composed and consistent end to end. This song is so funky you'd think Sly was gonna take you higher. Overall Widow and the Lineup have composed a very entertaining recording.

San Pedro Guitarist Dave Widow: New CD, Performs At Warner Grand Annex May 19

Widow originally hails from Cincinnati Ohio, where he was a young protege' of guitar greats Lonnie Mack and Roger "Jellyroll" Troll among others. Now a mainstay in the SoCal blues community for over two decades (having regularly performed in venues such as B.B. Kings, House Of Blues, The Mint, and Cafe' Boogaloo), Widow is presently finishing up his new CD entitled "Waiting For The World To End." Performing that evening in Widow's band are renowned drummer Gary Mallaber (known for his work with Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison and Steve Miller Band among others); bassist Ray Brundidge (James Brown); keyboardist-vocalist David Morgan (Jim Messina, Ricky Nelson); and other special guests.

With his unique style of finger picking and distinct vocals, Widow brings a fresh approach to the Blues, while also combining elements of R&B, Funk, Soul and Rock. His musical style is influenced by his relationship with many great blues and R&B talents, including Buddy Miles, Bonnie Bramlett, Bill Champlain, Lonnie Mack, and his mentor and collaborator (the late) Roger "Jellyroll" Troy, bassist and vocalist for The Mike Bloomfield Band.

Widow is excited about his new material on his upcoming CD. "One of my new songs is called, "What Did I Do, To Piss You Off, This Time"...that needs little explanation, I think....there's also "Picture Of You," a melancholy song about remembering a lost love, via an old photo I found, on a rainy afternoon, and it's an Americana/dreamy-sort of tune..."Leave A Piece Of Me" was written about an old girlfriend who broke my heart."

As for the future? "I would like to be more well known, obviously, performing at concerts, and associated with a known record label, making CD's, or whatever medium is current at that time, still writing songs, collaborating on tunes with other writers and artists, and producing some other artists as well. I like to work on other artist's music, and help bring other artists ideas to fruition."
