WHAT THE PRESS IS
SAYING ABOUT DEEDRA PATRICK AND SWAMP KATZ
"To anoint someone a "survivor" in the music world has
got to be the most played out of all rock 'n' roll cliches. Still, it's a pretty
apt description of Deedra Patrick, a powerhouse vocalist with a sterling
reputation, not just in Bakersfield but the many places around the country where
her talent has taken her."
Matt Munoz/BAKERSFIELD
CALIFORNIAN.
"Vocalist Deedra Patrick is back in the
studio...powerful vocals and hot guitar riffs from (guitarist) Ron Brem..."
BMANS BLUES
REPORT
"Deedra Patrick and the Swamp Katz blew the crowd
away with Patrick's Janis Joplin-esque voice and lively band."

DEEDRA PATRICK - BIO
Imagine Janis
Joplin, Lydia Pence of Cold Blood, and Etta James if they all took the stage at
the same time. Close your eyes, and you might find yourself hearing just that
fine ensemble of artists when Deedra Patrick sings.
While attending college Deedra got her start performing professionally at age 17
as lead singer for the rock band "Contra-Band". This band played 5 nights per
week, from 1983 thru 1989 in local clubs in her hometown of Bakersfield. It was
during this time that Ms. Patrick learned how to perform on stage and handle an
audience by playing the local bar scene.
At the age of 23 Deedra left Bakersfield for LA, during this time she
headlined clubs like The Roxy and The Rainbow on Sunset Strip as lead singer of
the popular hard rock band, Typsy Fox. The band later changed their name to Rain
on Fire and received airplay on KLOS for their original songs, as well as,
receiving rave reviews in local magazines such as Music Connection. They were
known as one of the only hard rock bands in Hollywood fronted by a female
vocalist. Her powerful vocals were hard for any female or male vocalist to
contend with and they created a name for themselves as being a high energy, hard
hitting band.
By 1994, Deedra hooked up with the legendary producer, Rick Jarrard, of
Jefferson Airplane, Jose Feliciano, Michael McDonald fame. He offered her a
songwriting deal and began to mentor her, spending hours teaching her all his
secrets about recording, the industry, songwriting and perfecting her talent.
During this time Deedra was being courted for a record deal from Geffen Records,
unfortunately a major car accident while touring put a temporary halt to all
Deedra's dreams.
Fast
forward to 2012 and Deedra - who regularly performs with her band, The Swamp
Katz - is back in the studio recording original blues/rock songs that she has
written alone and with writers Ron Brem and Chris Neufeld. These songs are a reflection of her
life and journeys that have led to this point in her career. The Swamp KATZ
consists of Ron Brem on lead guitar and Chris Neufeld on keyboards. The band
regularly uses session players for bass and drums, which have included Joe Baiza
and Jimmy Johnson on bass, as well as, Zanne Zarrow and Jonathan Weinmann on
drums. Songwriters Patrick/Brem and Neufeld have created a sound that is new and
unique to the blues world. With their combined styles they have created a hard
hitting, funky blues sound with big gospel harmonies and soulful melodies, with
guitar stylings reminiscent of Jimmy Hendrix.
You do not want to miss hearing this vocalist, her
unique styling, and learn of her life through her songs. She will remind you of
many great blues / soul singers of past. She will make you feel every emotion
and every pulse of the music.
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
