I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live, from Raphael Wressnig & Igor Prado and it's hot! Opening with funky, Bill Withers' Kissing My Love, Raphael Wressnig on Hammond and Igor Prado on guitar set up an excellent jam. Wressnig lays down the melody, backed by Yuri Prado on drums and Igor picks up the melody making this a great opening groove. Wressnig has the mic on Born To Roam with full Hammond backing and Igor's phrasing on solo guitar kicks it up to overdrive. Very cool. Crossfire is an excellent guitar fueled blues jam featuring some of Prado's best chops on the release. Wressnig pushes the heat on organ, making this one of my favorite tracks on the set. Igor gets his shot on the mic on Snooks Eaglin's, swampy, Drive It Home. With New Orleans style he rips some great riffs and Wressnig cements the groove. Bobby Blue Bland's Ain't No Love (In The Heart of the City) is a real nice change up with it's slinky feel, led by Wressnig on Hammond. Igor digs deep for some really soulful riffs on guitar giving the track real balance between the instrumentalists. Very nice. Wrapping the release is Prado's original boogie, Faceslap Swing No.5 when this band really soars. With Yuri driving the beat on drums, Igor and Wressnig go full tilt making this a terrific closer for a really cool release.

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release (September 17, 2021), Groove & Good Times, from Raphael Wressnig and Igor Prado and it's a blast. Opening with a funky jazz groove, Bill Withers' Kissing My Love, Raphael Wressnig on B3 is joined by Igor Prado on guitar and Yuri Prado on drums. This track is bound to make you squirm if not outright get up and dance. A blast right out of the gate, it's really hot. Another funky track, Isley Brothers' I Know Who You Been Socking It Too switches gears but if you like funky B3, this is it! James Brown's Blues & Pants shifts into a JB like rhythm with snappy percussion and shared lead between Prado and Wressnig. As typical in some jazz/rock jams, occasional vocal phrases are thrown about by Wressnig and "Hot Pants" sums it up! Johnny Guitar Watson's blues track, You Bring Love has a great R&B feel with super vocal work by Igor Prado and Jenni Rocha. This is a really nice track and a strong contender for radio track select. Really nice blues guitar soloing by Prado accents this track nicely really punctuating it. Junior Wells' Snatch It Back And Hold It is a terrific redo with Prado really working the lead like a Texas guitar slinger. Wressnig, known as one of the best funk/jazz B3 guys around shows why. Reese Wynans Crossfire gets the funky treatment and Prado, who is really upfront on this really uses the Albert King/SRV stylistic influence blended with his own phrasing, over hot rimshot rhythms by Yuri. Wrapping the release is Bob Marley's Soul Shakedown Party. With a tight reggae drum rhythm Prado and Wressnig alternate laid back lead sequences for their own unique take on this classic. Solid closer for a really fun release.

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, You Gotta Have It, from Tia Carroll, and I really like it. Opening with Neo soul track, Ain't Nobody Worryin' Tia Carroll really has this release humming from the start. With guitar phenom, Charlie Hunter handling bass and guitar (at the same time) D'Mar on drums, Jim Pugh on organ and Carroll on lead vocal with James Walter and Dwayne Morgan on backing vocals, this track is hot. Carroll's vocals are so soulful on Even When I'm Not Alone, it makes you sweat. With Pugh's organ work, Kid Andersen on guitars, Steve Ehrmann on bass and Paul Revelli on drums, a strong track. With real blues swagger, Mama Told Me plays into the power of Carroll's voice with Andersen laying in some stinging guitar riffs over the power horns work of Mike Runta on trombone, Rob Sudduth on tenor sax, and Aaron Lington on bari sax. Excellent! Wrapping the release is Why Am I Treated So Bad with it's dark soulful sound. With a daunting bass line by Ehrmann and the power horns of Rinta, Sudduth, Lington and Lewis, supporting Carroll's strong vocals and a cool key solo by Pugh, this is a terrific closer for a terrific release.

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, A Woman Rules The World, from Whitney Shay and it's lively. Opening with pop track, Ain't No Weak Woman, lead vocalist Whitney Shay is joined by Jim Pugh on piano, Kedar Roy on bass, Sax Gorgon Beadle on sax, and Alexander Pettersen on drums. Slinky Blues Down Home settles down into a nice groove with full sax and trumpet punctuation by Beadle and John Halbleib respectively. A solid sax solo by Beadle, harp work by Aki Kumar and piano and organ work by Pugh gives this track real oomph. With a rolling R&B feel, Love's Creeping Up On Me has great feel, with super vocals, stinging guitar riffs by Igor Prado and nicely blended vocals. One of my favorite tracks on the release is title track, A Woman Rules The World with super vocals by Shay and Lisa Leuschner Andersen, nice guitar phrasing by Andersen and an overall great soul feel. Freedom has a soulful strut with a great bass line, tight drums and powerful bari sax work by Beadle. With a funky bottom, Shay's best vocals shine on Get It When I Want It. A nicely woven instrumental backing of organ, slide guitar, organ, piano and drums, this track it hot! Soulful ballad, Empty Hand, is laden with rich organ and sax giving Shay a perfect stage to belt out the blues and Beadle get yet another chance to lay out a super sax solo. Wrapping the release is rocking R&B track, Get Down With It, with all of the enthusiasm of Little Richard, driven by Pettersen on drums and Pugh on piano. Beadle's sax soloing and some cool guitar work by Andersen put a bow on this one. Very cool.

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, The Soul Connection, from Raphael Wressnig & Igor Prado and it blows me away. Opening with Otis Clay's hit, Trying To Live My Life Without You, features Willie Walker on lead vocal surrounded by lush organ work of Wressnig and stinging guitar work of Igor Prado and backed by Rodrigo Mantovani on bass, Yuri Prado on drums, Sax Gordon Beadle on sax, Sidmar Vieira on trumpet and Lisa Andersen on backing vocals. Super soulful opener. Jazzy instrumental Young Girl has a great groove giving Prado and Wressnig wide open space to dig into solid solos. This is a super track that will get into your seat. Willie Walker is back on Little Willie John's soulful, Suffering With The Blues. With easy club styling, Prado really sit's down on his solo, squeezing out each drop of blues. Mantovani's bass work is spot on and Wressnig's organ work carrying the weight under beautifully crushing vocals by Walker. Tyrone Davis' R&B track, Turning Point, has a great feel featuring David Hudson on lead vocal. Mantovani's bass line really accentuates the track nicely with punchy key work from Wressnig and snappy drum work from Yuri. With cool lead organ work on original track, No-La-Fun-Ky, Mantovani and Yuri really hit the groove. This is a hot track and Igor's guitar work is smokin! Little Willie John's Home At Last has just the right feel featuring Willie Walker on some of the best lead vocals on the release, really nice key work by Wressnig, and excellent guitar phrasing and I do mean excellent phrasing from Prado. R&B instrumental, Turnip Greens has just the right bass lines to make this a super track with warm organ lead and Albert King like blues guitar riffs. Very cool. Willie Walker has the lead on Billy Myles' My Love Is, with a cool airy backing featuring mostly hand claps, finger snaps, a super cool bass line and keys. Very cool. Igor Prado's excellent jump track, The Face Slap Swing No 5, is absolutely off the hook with outrageous soloing from both Wressnig and Prado. My favorite track on the release...excellent! Instrumental, Grazing In The Grass, made popular by Hugh Masekela has solid orchestration and clean solos on an "easy" arrangement. Leon Beale takes the lead vocal role on Don Robey's Don't Cry No More, made popular by Wilson Pickett. With it's high energy spilling over and pushed to the sky by Wressnig and Igor, this track almost hits gospel heights. Willie Walker really raises the bar on Jon Thomas' Heartbreak and the driving bass line of Mantovani really gets this track stomping. Igor and Wressnig slip in really tasty riffs on this super stepping track. Wow! Wrapping the release is Wayne Rainey's country western hit, Why Don't You Haul Off And Love Me. Wressnig takes the lead and with a blend of country and gospel styling, wraps up one of the best releases that I've heard in a long time.

I just received the newest release, Livin' Life Not Worryin' from the Dennis Herrera Blues Band and it's terrific! Opening with All This Fun's for Free, a cool blues rocker featuring Igor Prado. Herrera brings a great band featuring Rich Wenzel who really plays out the piano on this track. Prado throws down some hot rockin riffs on guitar and Herrara's vocals are just right. Denis Depoitre steps on the gas with his harp playing topping off this real nice opener. Can't Get Enough is a stinging rocker with Alan Maggini with great tone on guitar and Wenzel laying down some great organ riffs. Loping, Damn Uncle Sam opens with Depoitre on harp and a cool Lee Campbell drum riff. Herrera has just the right vocal style for this track and Maggini cuts it up pretty nice on guitar. Hank Van Sickle's bass lines are spot on, with Wenzel giving the track a great rhythm. Uptempo blues, Chicago style, Love You Good, has a cool vintage feel with distorted vocals and super harp riffs from Depoitre. Bill Bates steps up on guitar on this one with some cool slide riffs and leaves the track with some precise thrillers. Title track, Livin' Life Not Worryin' features Prado on guitar and he kills it. Depoitre hits the harp just right with great tone. This is a really hot track and one of my favorites on the release. Slim Baby Slim is a rock n roller featuring Lynwood Slim and Jeffrey Paul Ross on guitars and Slim also takes the lead vocal role. Wenzel takes a lead piano solo and the house is rockin! Depoitre grabs tight and blows a great few lines. Excellent! Mean Ole Texas Shuffle features the one and only Anson Funderburgh. Depoitre takes a real nice long harp solo supported nicely by Wenzel, Van Sickle and Campbell. Herrera guides the track nicely on vocal and Funderburghs are stylistic and precise. Very nice! Funky track, Sun Is Shining, has a great waddling pace. This is one of those tracks that just gets your head bobbing. With Dan McCann on bass and Depoitre on harp, this track hits hard. Wenzel's organ work on the track, punctuated by Maggini's guitar work make this a standout track. Lynwood Slim, Maggini and Jeffrey Paul Ross are back on guitar on Talkin' At My Back Door and fat sliding gives this track a trace of Elmore. Slims vocals and Wenzel's piano work dress this track nicely and Depoitre's harp work brings it home. Blues rocker, Something I Read, features a real nice blues rock guitar rhythm and a casual vocal delivery by Herrera. Depoitre sets a nice foundation on harp and Herrera lays out some really nice guitar riffs of his own. Rock n Roller, This Ain't Nothin' New has Funderburgh back and again he hits it square on with his trademark riffing. Wenzel takes a nice keyboard solo of his own, pushed along by Campbell and Van Sickle. Depoitre wraps the track in exchange with Funderburgh making this a solid rocker. Excellent! Wrapping the release is a hot boogie called Hooker Heat. A very characteristic Hooker style track features hot riffs from Depoitre, Maggini and Tommy Castro coaxed along by Herrera. This is an excellent closer for a really hot release!
