I just received the newest release (September 30, 2014), Everlasting Arms, from Luke Winslow-King and it's quite interesting. Opening with title track, Everlasting Arms, LWK sets an easy spiritual blues feel singing in tandem with wife, Esther Rose. A laid back country blues, LWK handles primary lead vocal and smooth slide guitar work. Very nice. Swing That Thing has a lot of jangle and a feel of the hill country blues. A simple blues holler not unlike Mr Burnside might put down, and clean rhythmic guitar rhythm and slide work ...this is a very cool track. Levee Man has a strong feel of New Orleans jazz and bright trumpet Ben Polcer as well as some nice clarinet and trombone work. A very nice Basin Street feel. Graveyard Blues is a simple ballad with nice piano accompaniment by Polcer. An easy set 3/4 pace really showcases the nice blend between Rose and LWK's vocals. Cadillac Slim digs deeper into the New Orleans feel with drummer Benji Bohannon leading the way. LWK lays down a clean electric solo on this track and upright bassist Cassidy Holden sets a solid bass line. La Bega's Carousel again features really nice vocal blending and the island rhythm which enriches New Orleans' heritage. A featured trumped solo by Polcer over a naked drum rhythm by Bohannon is really cool! The Crystal Water Springs has a much more traditional blues feel and raw guitar sounds. I really like the slide work on this track with it's raggedy edges and earthy feel. Wanton Way Of Loving features Rose in front and LWK echoing on second vocal. Enriched with a country fiddle sound, this track is solid and clean. Interlude (As It Goes) is a very interesting track with what to my ear sounds like Mali guitar work. Excellent! Last Night I Dreamed My Birthday is a strongly written ballad and one that could easily find it's way to multiple genre playlists. Domino Sugar is a sugary sweet rock track that rivals anything that John Mayer puts up but with cool slide work. Very nice! Interlude II is a short experimental instrumental track. A nice break and adds texture. Home Blues has a great St' James Infirmary feel with a super play between the horns and bass line. A beautiful clarinet solo on this track not only gives it a feeling of authenticity but makes you wonder why it doesn't find it's way onto more contemporary tracks. Polcer really finds the groove on this track with his solo trumpet work and LWK delivers on vocals making this one of my favorite tracks on the release. Wrapping the release is Traveling Myself, a bouncy country style blues track primarily LWK on vocal and guitar with improvised percussion.
This is a deceptively cool release which you need to listen to a few times to really get... and you should get it!

Luke Winslow-King to release new album Everlasting Arms
*Album out on September
30 on Bloodshot Records
*Exclusive launch with
Brooklyn Vegan of the new single, “Everlasting Arms”
+
Luke Winslow-King (www.bloodshotrecords.com/artist/luke-winslow-king)
is releasing a new album Everlasting Arms on September 30 via Bloodshot Records.
The pre-order sale link is available here (www.bloodshotrecords.com/album/everlasting-arms).
Winslow-King is a
guitarist/singer/songwriter from New Orleans, LA by way of Cadillac, MI. Following his critically acclaimed Bloodshot Records debut
The Coming
Tide in 2013, LWK (for brevity’s sake) has been as hardworking a
musician as they come. Subsequent tours in the United States and overseas with
his singing partner (and now wife) Esther Rose and a mutating band (including
the core of upright bassist Cassidy Holden, drummer Benji Bohannon, and
trumpeter/keyboardist Ben Polcer) landed the group in front of larger audiences
while sharing the stage with the likes of Jack White, Pokey Lafarge, Taj Mahal,
Chris Thile, and Rebirth Brass Band. Winslow-King’s second release for Bloodshot
in as many years, Everlasting Arms finds inspiration in the developmental
experiences of life and has LWK & Co. building upon previous creative
efforts with a wider scope, exploring a sonically and stylistically panoramic
songwriting vision, carrying on in balancing tradition with
modernity.
Brooklyn Vegan announced
the album release and launched the lead single for the album-titled track,
“Everlasting Arms.” You can listen to and share the track here: https://soundcloud.com/bshq/01-everlasting-arms-1/s-WIbkL?in=bshq/sets/luke-winslow-king-everlasting-arms-out-930/s-J8j5C

Recorded at Piety Street Studios
in New Orleans, The Coming Tide
brings together Winslow-King’s formal music education with a street-busking
resilience, a proficiency on bottleneck slide guitar, the featured vocals (and
washboard playing) of Esther Rose, and a cast of A-plus local players. The
result is a vibrant amalgam of early 20th century jazz, Delta blues, American
folksong, and Southern gospel.

Bloodshot Records signs Luke Winslow-King
BLOODSHOT RECORDS SIGNS NEW
ORLEANS-BASED ARTIST LUKE
WINSLOW-KING
THE COMING
TIDE TO BE
RE-RELEASED IN MARCH 2013
Jason Kruppa]
Bloodshot Records is very excited to
announce the signing of New Orleans-based artist Luke
Winslow-King. Luke initially caught our ear with his unique
style, emerging from the ashes of Delta blues, New Orleans traditional jazz, ragtime, and
pre-war American folksong. After being transfixed watching Luke and
singer/washboard player Esther Rose perform gorgeous duets at a noisy college
bar in Chicago
we were straight up hooked. His amalgam of sounds is full of culture and
texture, and respectively Winslow-King’s knowledge of music history and
attention to detail are nearly as captivating as his impeccable song
compositions, guitar technique, and warm voice.

As for a little background detail: in
2010, already with two full-length albums under his belt, LWK formed a trio
consisting of Rose and upright bass player Cassidy Holden that remains the
namesake’s core incarnation. In June the group self released the exceptional
The Coming Tide and after being
bowled over, we knew Luke and Co. would make a great addition to the
roster.
In March 2013 Bloodshot will re-release
The Coming Tide with bonus tracks
and new packaging.
Below is the remainder of the LWK’s
show dates in 2012, with many more to come in the new year. He and the group
tour extensively – roughly 175 performances over the last year – so keep an eye
out for them in your area.
