Blueskitty Records artist: Michele D'Amour and the Love Dealers - Heart of Memphis - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Heart of Memphis, from Michele D'Amour and the Love Dealers and it's got real traction. Opening with Another Sleepless Night, a slick, Latin flavored track along the lines of Black Magic Woman, finds Michele up front on vocal with Jeff Cornell laying down some sweet guitar lead, backed by Patrick McDanel on bass, Dave Delzotto on drums, Brian Olendorf on keys and Noel Barnes on sax. Another breezy, bluesy track with Latin rhythm is Come On Over with Sheila Kelly and Kristi miller singing lush backing vocals. Olendorf's piano solo is smooth and a tasty trumpet insert by Greg Lyons adds just the right iridescence. Title track, Heart of Memphis has rich horns and smooth vocal leads by Michele. With a nice interwoven texture of trumpet, bass, guitar, lead and backing vocal, this is a cool radio track. One of the most fun tracks on the release is funky, Memphis Soul Stew a la James Brown style. Michele directs the building of a cool stew of jam. A warm sax solo by Barnes, tight guitar solo by Cornell, a great bass solo by McDanel, snappy drums by Delzotto and of course a bright piano solo by Olendorf makes this one of my favorites on the release. Wrapping the release is bluesy ballad, Strange Angels, with the focus on Michele on lead. I really like the lead bass lines and little things like the warm backing vocals and the spiritual styling of Olendorf's piano and organ work. Solid closer.

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Wiggle Room, from Michele D'Amour and the Love Dealers and it's a cool mix of blues, pop and rock. Opening with Falling Down, a solid rocker with Patrick McDanel on driving bass, Jeff Cornell on guitar, Dave Delzotto on drums, Brian Olendorf on keys and Noel Barnes on sax, all supporting the lead vocal of Michelle D'Amour McDaniel. Shuffle track, Sweet Lovin Man showcases Michelles vocal work and a solid sax solo by Barnes. With it's walking bass line, Nothing To No One has a solid melody and the somber trumpet lines of Greg Lyons set the track off nicely and highlights really nice piano lead by Olendorf. Rocker, Been So Long has great energy with slicing guitar riffs from Cornell and solid organ work by Olendorf. Worthy is a moody ballad with a particularly nice sax solo by Barnes. Wrapping the release is Hard Times, a definite pop/radio style track but with a strong melody and instrumentation, a perfect closer for the set.

Michele D'Amour and the Love Dealers - Lost Nights at the Leopard Lounge - New Release review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Lost Nights at the Leopard Lounge, from Michele D'Amour and the Love Dealers and it's versatile contemporary blues selection. Opening with shuffle track, No Good, Michele leads the way on vocal backed by Patrick McDanel on bass, Ryan Higgins on guitar and Rennie Bishop on drums. Bringing down the tempo, Trouble is a solid track with some of D'Amour's best vocals on the release. Higgins plays sweet guitar lines over the warm bass lines of McDanel and drums of Rick Bowen. With real nice guitar riffs and trem vibrato by Higgins, a cool Latin rhythm by Bowen and a nice bass line by McDanel, Leopard Lounge has great feel. Another slower blues number, All I Do Is Work, has a pop edge and with the addition of organ, and solid guitar lines by Higgins, makes this track another strong contender on the release. Blue As Blue Can Get has a great bass line and a somewhat Brazilian feel... let's say a bluesy bossa nova. Blues rocker, Last Man Standing, has a classic rock feel along the lines of Fleetwood Mac. The strong bass playing of McDanel and cool soloing by Higgins gives the track a thicker edge. Wrapping the release is shuffle track, Black Cat Boogie, with a cool walking bass line, clever lyrics and a jazzy solo from Higgins. A cool closer for a nice release.

Michele D'Amour and the Love Dealers - Ante Up - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Ante Up from Michele D'Amour and the Love Dealers and it's lively. Opening with She's Got Sway, a groovy rocker, D'Amour takes the lead on vocal with Greg Dolan on guitar, Patrick Mc Danel on bass and Rick Bowen on drums. Special guest Sue Oelrich plays a lively keyboard solo on this track as well. Waiting For You, a slow paced blues track features some particularly lush guitar work by CD Woodbury. Chippy rocker, Say What You Mean, keeps it light with a pretty nice guitar solo from Greg Nolan as well as Oelrich on keys. One of my favorite tracks on the release, One Wave At A Time, has a smokey feel along the lines of I Put A Spell On You. D'Amour does a nice job on vocals and I particularly like Dolan's guitar phrasing on this particular track. R&B style Angels All Around, has a cool groove and Dolan's guitar work puts me in mind of the Chambers Brothers. Jealous is a slow ballad with the nices vocal efforts on the release. With it's overall spiritual like vocal blending this is a nice track. Dolan steps up with a tasty blues solo on this track as well. Very nice! On boogie track, Dress Code, the band creates a bit of a rumble with a melody that will stick in your ear. Too Fine A Night, a quiet blues like track, again features CD Woodbury on guitar. Not Your Man has a bit of a funky step and features an excellent bass solo by McDanel as well as a screamer of a guitar riff from Dolan as well. Shuffle track, Memory, has a nice walking bass line and some of the best vocal harmonies on the release. Oelrich lays out a sweet key solo on this track giving it nice vocal to instrumental balance. New Orleans styled, Hurricane is probably a track that should go straight to the radio. It has a catchy melody, it's very danceable and fun vocally. With a partying sound and singing about partying is always a solid crowd pleaser. McDanel opens the final track, Don't Make Me Wait, with a driving bass line and D'Amour gets this jump track hopping. Oelrich plays a snappy key solo and Dolan rolls out one of his own. A nice closer for a lively recording.
