Middle Mountain Music artist: RB Stone - Some Call It Freedom - New Release review

I just received the newest release, Some Call It Freedom (some call it the blues), from RB Stone and it's quite good. Opening with Hill Country Stomp, a hard driving boogie, RB Stone drives this track hard with a great lead riff and solid vocals. Joined by Terrance Houston on drums Stone really gets rockin' with grinding slide and harp work. Excellent opener! A bit more laid back and with a little funk, title track, Some Call It Freedom has a real cool groove. Stone again hits the slide but this time with more polish, Larry Van Loon on keys and a more contemporary sound. 35 Miles To Mobile is a piano driven track with a real rock bottom. I like Stone's guitar tone on rhythm and his slide sound is fat as it gets. Randy Coleman adds a solid bottom for yet another strong track. YoYo Lover has a light Cajun rhythm and cool piano riffs from Van Loon and Stone plays a more melodic guitar and harp solos making this the more prominent radio track to this point. Straight up rocker, Mind Your Bizzness has a great beat and cool melody. Van Loon takes off on B3 but the format is solid radio rock and should hit the radio hard. Very nice! Another Thief is a great blues rocker with raw RL Burnside roots and fat slide work by Stone making this one of my favorite tracks on the release. Nickajack has a real country flavor with an almost banjo pick sound. With it's rudimentary sound and military execution, this is a clean, super instrumental. Another boogie, You Don't Want Me, sets a great JL Hooker kind of pace with Stone kicking it out! Cigar box guitar never sounded so nice! Won't Stop Rockin' has the simplicity of a 60's rocker with JLL style piano work from Van Loon. Freewheelin' slide work and harp riffs by Stone really drive this one home. Excellent! Too Slim Langford joins on Weapons Of Mass Persuasion adding his own excellent slide work to the repertoire. A low slung blues track with heavy slide and hot harp...what else could you want? Wrapping the release is Standin' On Top Of The World, a contemporary rocker with a lot of pep. Austin Young joins on lead guitar and each of the band members gets his chance to show his chops. With it's simple lyric and catchy this track should see cross genre airplay. This really is an exceptional release and one you should check out!

Middle Mountain Music artist: RB Stone - Loosen Up! - New release review

I just received the newest release (June 18, 2013), Loosen Up!, from RB Stone and if you like your blues with a lotta country kick, this may be your deal! Opening with High Horse, a regular foot stomper, Stone hits hard and fast featuring Tom Hambridge on drums, Robert Britt on lead guitars, Tommy McDonald on bass and Jefferson Jarvis on keys... these guys make fire. On Long Gone Lonesome Blues, Stone leads the way through a Whippin Post like track with intricate rhythmic drumming, saturated key work and weaving guitars. On title track, Loosen Up!, the guys do a straight up boogie. Jarvis takes a real nice piano solo complimenting strong vocals by Stone and Hambridge. God Heals You When You Cry is a real smooth blues ballad featuring super vocals by Stone and hot guitar riffs from Britt. Texas Drunk Tank Blues is a hard driving blues rocker over a basic Robert Johnson riff. Always a good bet! Stone also adds some key harp playing on this track adding intensity to an already smoky tune. A Bad Case Of Blues Goin' On has a really cool guitar riff leading the way. Hambridge adds crisp snappy rhythm and Britt slides through with clean soloing. I Ain't Buying That Bull Today is another fast paced blues rocker with a cool hook. Harp work from Stone on this track adds a cool break from consistent solid vocals but it's the tasty guitar work of Britt and excellent drum work by Hambridge that gives this track the extra punch. She's Too Hot Handle is a great loping Texas style blues rocker. Super key work by Jarvis nicely compliments Stone on vocal and harp throughout this great airplay track. Hot guitar sliding really heats up the final track, Harley Heart, and Hambridge answers with train like drumming. Stone adds a bit of distortion to his vocal which gives the track more feel and texture. This is a real interesting album and one that is sure to please existing fans and win a bunch of new ones with this 10 pack of smoke!
