I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Peter Veteska & Blues Train - Grass Ain't Greener on the Other Side - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Grass Ain't Greener on the Other Side, by Peter Veteska & Blues Train and it's a solid blues rocker. Opening with Am I Wrong Pretty Baby, singer/songwriter and lead guitarist, Peter Veteska starts off with a cool slinky blues, with Mikey jr. on harmonica, Alex D'Agnese on drums, Jeff Levine on B3 and Coo Mo Jee on bass. With it's Latin blues rhythm, Running Like A Dog. is strong with a really nice B3 solo by Levine and solid vocals and tasty guitar riffs by Veteska. My favorite track on the release is shuffle track, You Give Me Loving with a cool guitar/B3 intro and solid vocals. Veteska really gets the crew would up on this one and his guitar soloing is sharp and tight. R&B track, Thinking and Drinking has a light, upbeat rhythm and with balanced vocal and guitar melody, makes this a likely radio track for the release. Willie Cobb's You Don't Love Me is a great cover with a snappy drum anchor, country blues influenced guitar work and cool B3 work makes this track work well. Wrapping the release is title track, Grass Ain't Greener On The Other Side with a cool, funky bass line, cool blues guitar riffs and trading vocal lines with Roger Girke making is a strong closer.

Slide Records artist: Paul Boddy & The Slidewinder Blues Band - Friends of Tuesday - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Friends of Tuesday, from Paul Boddy & The Slidewinder Blues Band and it's a cool rocking boogie release. Opening with Over The Hump, a cool rocker with attitude, featuring Paul Boddy on lead vocal and guitar. Chuck Hearne on bass, Glenn Hale on keys and Jim Bowman on drums. With it's firm straight ahead beat, it's a solid opener. Another solid blues rocker, Money on Love, has a cool country blues feel with strong vocal and slide work by Boddy and snappy drum rhythm by Bowman. With a southern rock swagger, Knock My Boots has plenty of kick and a JJ Cale energy. Bowman's tight drum rhythm and Boddy's slide work continue to set the theme for the release. Wrapping the collection is boogie shuffle, Pretty Kitty with a super bass line by Hearne and Mikey Jr. laying down some hot harp riffs. Hale steps up with some real nice electric keys and Boddy circles back with some cool blues guitar riffs making this a solid closer.

Tom Craig and Soul Patch - Get Ready For Me - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Get Ready For Me, by Tom Craig and Soul Patch and it's got a good vibe. Opening with Louita, a light funky track has a cool horn round and traces of David Bromberg bones. This track has a smoking hot sax solo really kickin it off right. Backing Tom Craig on guitar and vocal is John O'Connell on drums, Rando Branning on bass, Eric Johnson on organ, Vince Gleason on tenor sax, Mark Gallagher on bari sax, Dan Young on alto sax, Sean McClusker on trombone abd Skyler Hagner on bari sax. Can't Stop Thinking About You is one of my choice tracks on the release with a cool bass line and solid horn work, complimented by Mikey Jr. on harp. Captain Funk is a cool loosely jazzy track with sexy sax work and a tight jazzy guitar solo giving it plenty of juice. The blusiest track on the release, Please Forgive Me Baby, has really solid lead vocal and strong guitar feel. With Johnson's organ holding the line and the ever warm horn backing, this is my favorite on the release. Funky rocker, Tornado, has a really cool rhythm and Craig's vocals, balanced by organ and horn make for a nice mix. Shuffle track, I Can't Help Myself, has a commercial feel with a good hook, swinging sax and clever lyrics. R&B track, Nothin' That A Man Can't Do, is high energy with an aggressive bass line and tight horn backing. Wrapping the release is soul track, Every Woman, featuring Craig on some of the best vocals on the release. Holding down the tempo and leaving a lot of head space for vocals is really effective and a soulful sax solo stands tall over subtle instrumentation. Nice closer for a cool release.
