I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

7D Media artist: Tu-Ner - Tu-Ner For Lovers - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity top review the most recent release, Tu-Ner For Lovers (Live) by Tu-Ner and it's a very cool sonic exploration. Opening with The Last Barbie Tango, Markus Reuter on touch guitar and soundscapes works with Trey Gunn on Warr Guitar to create a very interesting shape, over Pat Mastelotto's masterful drum and electronics bottom. This track is tensely stretched and highly creative. Super opener. The White Thing has a cool, ethereal, electronic intro developing with deep guitar lead and soaring guitar contrast supported by stylized percussion. Triangle Of Love has a middle eastern rhythm with finely articulated guitar phrasing floating through the mist and fat Warr guitar lead thickening the stew. One of my favorite tracks on the release is The Call Him Threnody with heavy, drum laden rhythm, fat bottom and soaring guitar. Wrapping the release is Combat And Courtship with rapid percussion, a brilliant interplay between the bass and drum and guitar. With light rhythm work on cymbals, a rumbling deep bass line and swirling guitar lead, this is a solid, explorative finisher.

Purple Pyramid Records artist: Prog Collective - Dark Encounters - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Dark Encounters, from Prog Collective, a project founded and helmed by Billy Sherwood of Yes note. Opening with Darkest Hour, longtime Billy Idol guitarist, Steve Stevens is featured with soaring guitar riffs over Sherwood's bass, keyboard and drum composition. Atmospheric and intense, this is a strong opener. Steve Morse (Dregs/Deep Purple) adds his own virtuosity to Ominous Signs with a more structured composition allowing more freedom for Sherwood's own exploration. Dark Days is one of my favorite tracks on the release with Bumblefoot (GNR) contributing some real nice guitar and vocals, Patrick Moraz (Moody Blues) on keys, Omar Hakim (Weather Report) on drums and Sherwood on bass. Soft Machine's John Etheridge lays down some nicely phrased guitar lead on The Fifth Hour, paired with Sherwood on bass, keys and drums. Very cool. Another of my favorite tracks, Between Two Worlds features Steve Hillage (Gong) on guitars and Gregg Bissonette on drums and Sherwood on vocal, bass and keys. King Crimson's Pat Mastelotto sits in on drums on For All To See with strong guitar lines by Sherwood who also plays keys and bass. Bonus Tracks include Todd Rundgren's top ten hit, I Saw The Light featuring Rundgren on vocal and Rick Wakeman on keys and an up tempo cover of 10CC's I'm Not In Love featuring Wakeman on keys and Nektar.

7D media artist: Tu-Ner - T-1 Contact Information - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, T-1 Contact Information, from Tu-Ner and it's an excellent exploration of a theme. With some of the most prestigious names in Avant-Garde / progressive rock style music, this is quite an exhibition spread over 2 CDs.  Opening with Crowfin, Pat Mastelotto, lays out a really interesting rhythm pattern over which Markus Reuter creates an adventurous lead on guitar with atmospheric contributions by Trey Gunn on stick. If you aren't familiar with this trio, Reuters has been pioneering this style of music for quite some time wit this band as well in other endeavors. Mastelotto is widely known for his work with King Crimson as it Gunn who also had his ow band as well as a member of KTU. 31 is a deep groove with a solid funky like bass line from Gunn. Very nice. On Contact Information, an extremely heavy footed track, Mastelotto sets a deep stage and Reuter literally soars. Poem About A Sad Horse is a cool. introspective track with a leading bass line, tightly executed drum line and a floating guitar melody. Excellent! Wrapping the release is, Poodles, a pounding rocker at Mastelotto's command with an excellent lead bass line by Gunn and unearthly melody by Reuter. This is a really interesting release that deserves a strong listen.

7D Media artist: Alex Anthony Faide - Particles of the Infinite - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Particles of the Infinite, by Alex Anthony Faide and I really like it. Faide, originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, has for decades been the go to session guitarist in Europe and South America. Now moved to Seattle and previously under the tutelage of Robert Fripp, founder of King Crimson this is his first solo effort.  Particles Of the Infinite is a 9 part composition, formatted much like a King Crimson suite of movements with distinct passages and eccentric time signatures. Faide, on guitar and bass, is joined by Matt Chamberlain  (David Bowie), Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson) and Alessandro Inolti (Echotest). If you know any of Fripp's work, you know that it's difficult to articulate anything descriptive that is meaningful about his compositions and in the case of Faide, the work defies being nailed down. Let's just say if you heard this composition at random, and truely knew Fripp's work, you would see the similarities to King Crimson and Fripp styling but understanding that it wasn't a Fripp composition. Excellent release!
