I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Secret Records artist: Paul Lamb and the King Snakes - Hole In The Wall - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Hole In The Wall from Paul Lamb and the King Snakes and it's tight. Opening with Hole In The Wall, a boogie rumble, Chad Strentz leads the way on vocal and rhythm guitar with Paul Lamb chirping in on harp, Rob Demick on bass, Ryan Lamb on lead guitar and Dino Coccia on drums. Next up is Sometime Tomorrow, a radio worthy R&B style track with a cool hook. Preaching The Blues has a real solid deep rooted sound, like John Lee Hooker. The vocal effects add nicely to a really cool harp solo on this track. Jumpin' Little Judy is the hottest track on the release with as you might imagine a hot jump beat. Paul Lamb leads the way with smokin harp riffs and Strentz pushes him along vocal. Ryan Lamb steps up with a bright guitar solo of his own. Excellent! Wrapping the release is ballad, A Better Place To Be, a solid melody and plenty of opportunity for instrumental interjection. Lamb takes a real sweet guitar solo on this track and the entire band creates a gospel like vocal backing to close out the releae. Very nice.

Secret Records artist: Paul Lamb & The King Snakes - The Games People Play - New Release Review

I have been listening to the just released (May 28) new CD, The Games People Play by Paul Lamb & The King Snakes. The recording opens with a lively medley of Ray Charles' I Got A Woman and Johnny Cash's Fulsom Blues. They roll right into an original track, Let Me In, which along with some great harp sounds has a tasty British blues infused guitar solo. Very stylistically cool. Lamb's original boogie, Come To The Conclusion, is raw and rugged and has some really authentic delta guitar work as well as nice overdriven harp tones. The band uses classic Summertime to highlight Lambs capabilities on what sounds like a chromatic harp. Harp guys tell me... but it's cool. One of the best tracks on the recording is Big Walters' Easy, an instrumental showcasing both and harp. A smooth shuffle style song it just slides along as a harp and guitar jam. Another Ray Charles track, Black Jack Game is given the slow deep blues treatment and is really a pleasure to listen to. Ryan Lamb, lead guitar player really does an exemplary job on the guitar as well as the supporting band (Dino Coccia on drums and Rod Demick on bass). It's unusual to hear a contemporary band do a classic Roosevelt Sykes tune but here comes Ida Mae done raw and dirty...I love it. On another lamb original, Mind Games, that harp is really singing and the band is really swinging. Pulling a Professor Longhair track out of the bag is a real nice touch. Ya Ya Blues is done with that Nawlans gait and you know the boys are getting ready to wrap and party. Ledbelly penned Midnight Special is given an a capella (with harp) treatment and is very effective. Nice conclusion to a pretty cool recording.

Paul Lamb & The King Snakes

It didn’t happen suddenly. It took years of hard work and application, unfashionable words that signify little in these days of instant fame. As Paul can tell you, he and his band have done their individual time, made their mistakes, applied what they’ve learned, focused on their musicianship and the results are passed on to audiences that flock to their gigs. They in turn are guaranteed to enjoy genuine music performed with skill and mutual encouragement. It’s a simple but sure formula.

Right now, the King Snakes are a refreshing mixture of (relative) youth and experience.

The experience starting at the top, for Paul Lamb has spent the last thirty-some years whoopin’ and hollerin’ in clubs in his native North-East plus a later move to London, in concert and on festival stages, creating a personal synthesis of his harmonica heroes and his own unique and innate talent. His history includes representing Britain in the World Harmonica Championships, working with his particular mentor, Sonny Terry, and with any number of other blues artists who’ve visited these shores Over the years Paul Lamb & the King Snakes have won countless awards , sold record breaking quantities of albums and been inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame alongside the likes of Peter Green & John Mayall.
