Sadson Music artist: Rusty Wright Band - Hangin' at the DeVille Lounge - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Hangin' at the DeVille Lounge, from Rusty Wright Band, and it's a solid blues rocker. Opening with House of Spirits, Rusty Wright is upfront on lead vocal and guitar, backed by Laurie LaCrosse-Wright on guitar, Billy Agner on bass and Vail Hayes on drums. This slow, bluesy ballad with it's dark overtones is a solid opener for what's to come. Wright lays don't soulful lead under his vocal work with Agner. Blending a traditional blues form with a heavier rock style, Devil Man Blues has a heavy bottom and distorted vocals. I really like this approach and Wright shows cool chops blending the two forms together nicely. No Man Is An Island is a pure blues ballad with strong vocals by Wright and rich vocal blending with Laurie and Billy. Melodic lead by Wright is bound to make this a solid radio player. Very nice. Another solid blues track, Trouble's Always Knockin' with excellent lead vocal and guitar by Wright and conventional blues formatting is really a nice showcase for Wrights  fluid lead work and composition. Wrapping the release is Devil Music with it's Hendrix style attack. Wright, with super vocals and aggressive guitar lead, reinforced by Agner and Hayes really hammers this release closed. Very cool.

Sadson Music artist: The Rusty Wright Band - Wonder Man - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Wonder Man, from the Rusty Wright Band and these guys know how to rock! Opening with title track, Wonder Man, RWB sets a pop rock pace with a catchy tune and a solid rhythm. Wright, backed by Laurie LaCross-Wright on guitar and vocal, Dennis Bellinger on bass and vocal, Robert John Manzitti on keys and Marc Friedman on drums. Ain't That The Blues slows the pace a bit but maintaining a solid blues rock feel. Wright has a good voice to lead this band and his guitar riffs are fresh and fluid. Manzitti leads the way on Black Hat Boogie, a rolling boogie with a driving bottom. Blended vocals coupled with the styling puts me in mind of a polished Molly Hatchett. Rusty pulls out the slide and shows his clean sliding style. Smooth blues rocker with a jazz flare, You Know I Know,  shows the versatility of the band. Nicely articulated guitar soloing and meaty organ riffs give this track a nice kick. Straight up rocker, Love's Gonna Treat You Right has all of the good components of John Cougar and 38 Special rolled into one. A straight to the airwaves track. Gonna Come A Day is a cool, down to earth blues track built along a T-Bone Walker theme. Wright's lead vocals and meaty guitar solo's make this my stand out favorite track on the release...oh yeah! Corvette Sunday has a 60's rock kind of flavor with twin leads, bass and drum solos and even keyboard leads. Rabid guitar riffs and solid drumming keep this track just outside of the surf scene. Cool! Arms Of Another is an easy paced rock track. Manzitti takes a nice key solo and Wright and Bellinger's vocals blend nicely. There is a particularly nice guitar bridge in this track that stands out nicely. Whiskey Drinkin' Woman is a heavy bottomed blues rocker with the feel of a modern Willie Dixon. Wrapping the release is Chinfoot Ball, a hot rocker with a driving drum beat. Wright not only has a solid hold on great melodic composition but also know the fine art of dynamics and harmonics. Cool release!

This, That and the Other Thing - The Rusty Wright Band - New release review

I just received the new release, This, That and the Other Thing by The Rusty Wright Band. The release opens with AC/AD's Whole Lotta Rosie but done in a gospel swing style. Man On Fire is directed at airplay with a catchy melody and featuring Laurie LaCross - Wright on vocals. Rusty blisters the paint on the wall with fiery guitar riffs on this track. Alarm Clock Blues, a boogie track based loosly on Dust My Broom with a twisted story line over it gives Wright a chance to let the dog out on slide. Taking a joy ride on guitar Wright brings Dave Brahce and his B3 along but not without a Zappaesque drum/rhythm interlude from Peter Haist. How Blue Are You is a straight on blues ballad featuring Wright on vocal with Brahce on keys. Wright plays a melodic blues solo on this track which is actually quite nice. Wanna make a great blues rock release...you need some Mississippi Queen (Leslie West and Mountain) and here it is! Aren't too many guitar riffs that say blues rock like what comes after the cowbell and Wright knows how to lay it out! Trouble and The Marrying Kind, a boogie duet between the Wrights is another track which could get good airplay. Brahce plays a nice keys solo leading into smokin guitar riffs lending to Jmi, Gales, SRV and an number of other guitar heroes. Hide in Plain Sight takes hints from Freddie King on Hideaway but with a bit more swing. This is a pretty cool track allowing guitar jamming without a lot of showboating... very nice. Baby Roll On is a jazzy but funky track with some interesting twist giving nods to the early Allmans as well as Gov't Mule. This track turns into a pretty decent jam track with hot dueling guitars for those Allman fans. High Price Woman has a strong Texas lope and slide work that's fat like Rod Price (Foghat). I do! Handyman is another track with twin lead guitars but this time with more of a Dickey Betts flavor and then with strong swing overtones. Pen Or Sword is a slow soulful blues guitar ballad along the lines of Gary Moore or Ronnie Earl. With in excess of 8 minutes of track time, sit back and enjoy the ride!
