I just received the newest release, Scorched Earth Policy: Deluxe, from Brother Dege and it's a smart blend of swamp blues, rock, pop and psychedelia. Opening with Set It Off, a marching rocker, Dege's slide work paired with intense drumming and sonic vocals makes this a natural radio track. With a more rural feel, Pay No Mind has the sound of the pure south utilizing slide resonator behind solid vocals and basic rudimentary percussion. Somewhere has a polished feel with a cool bass line from Ian Guidros and supporting drums from Greg Travasos. Dege's vocals and guitar work are almost hypnotic. Day I Was Born has a real somber melody accompanied by resonator slide and including guitar work by Howie Wells and Danny Devillier on drums. This is a cool track with a heavy feel, kind of like a southern Led Zep. Black Sabbath's Supernaut has a lively almost European feel. Lead slide resonator and a solid drum beat moves this track. Yellabone is an interesting composition bouncing Dege's best vocals against backing vocals and a simple acoustic slide guitar. It has an interesting mix of acoustic rural and city rock sounds. Slide guitar anthem, Tower of Babel, has an intriguing melody and rhythm with an almost eastern feel. Rocker, Revolution has an electronica mix. Soundscapes, echo, drums, vocals and guitar weave nicely into a club like mix. Souls Of The Darklands has a warm but rugged sound carried by Devillier on drums and Dege's spot on vocal lead. Slide resonator accompaniment blends nicely with the vocals making this a really nice anthem... a movie closer for the right movie. Devillier really gets the skins in order leading the way on Calabasas with dynamic free form psychedelia guitar work by Dege. Excellent! Jones For War has a fairly mainstream feel with a straight up melody, acoustic guitar and harp. This is a real nice composition that should see cross media exposure. Wrapping the release is Way Of The Lamb a track that has a familiar early american feel and what sounds like a sitar giving it an unsettling feel. This is a cool release of tracks unlike what you'll likely find anywhere else. It's a cool listen and a fun ride... oh and check out the cover...it's a trip!

BROTHER DEGE KICKS-OFF U.S. SUMMER TOUR DATES JUNE 24TH IN
SAN ANTONIO!
The Deep South's forgotten son comes banging out of the
gates with his third album under the Brother Dege moniker, Scorched
Earth Policy: Deluxe, morphing his signature Delta, sonic-slide
sound (as heard in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained official soundtrack)
into the psyouthern, psych swamposphere. Joined by his touring band, The
Brethren, Brother Dege & Co. push these 12 tracks into rural cinematic
realms, adding their post-millennial update to the southern rock & roll
lexicon.
Following his two previous acclaimed solo efforts (2009's Folk
Songs Of The American Longhair & 2013's How To Kill A Horse) Brother Dege released a unique 19-track digital-only "summer
mixtape" last year entitled Scorched Earth Policy,
featuring a mix of newly recorded studio songs, demos, covers and field
recordings. Now Dege has updated it into a more cohesive studio
album, Scorched Earth Policy: Deluxe paring down some
of the rougher demos and field recordings and has added four new studio tracks
to it. This is the first time any of these 12 songs will be available on
CD.
Brother Dege's Scorched Earth Policy: Deluxe Edition
will be available July 24, 2015 on CD and digital formats.

"Frankly, every track on the Brother Dege CD could have been in the movie

HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN
SAYING ABOUT BROTHER DEGE:
"Frankly, every track on the Brother Dege CD could have been
in the movie [Django Unchained]. It works and has
a badass score sound to it. Almost every song could be a theme song. It’s like a
greatest hits album. But this song 'Too Old to Die Young'... it’s pretty damn
badass. And it’s used in the movie in a pretty damn badass way, I’ve got to
say.” - QUENTIN TARANTINO
“Fans of slide guitar, Southern gothic, or plain
old rock & roll attitude need to run, not walk, and check out Brother Dege
ASAP. Brother Dege is a case study in how one guy with a steel guitar and
minimal accompaniment can out-rock a roomful of electric bombast, given the
right songs, the right skills, and the right voice. Brother Dege has‘em all.”
– POPMATTERS
“[Four Stars] In lesser hands all this might easily
sound contrived, but instead it’s genuinely powerful and compelling stuff. 'The
Girl Who Wept Stones' and 'Dead & Gone' might have been ripped from the Son
House songbook, though the seven-minute epic 'House of the Dying Sun' is the
real keeper.” – UNCUT
“Both ancient and modern, like an indie rock cover
of something Lomax may have recorded a hundred years ago.” – BLOGCRITICS
"... an updated perspective of the age-old Delta
blues." - OFFBEAT MAGAZINE
“Brother Dege brings the ghosts of kudzu-covered
swamp rats to life in your speakers. Find the darkest spot in your backyard,
light some candles and turn it up.” – THE BIG
TAKEOVER
“... in the slide
guitar Delta blues tradition, but with Legg’s own twist.” – CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE
