I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

3 Get Ready - The Paul Garner Band - New release review
I just received a copy of the newest release, 3 Get Ready by The Paul Garner Band. The recording opens with a straight up retro sounding verion of Willie Dixon's My Babe. Garner's trio has a smooth jazzy attack on this track and continues onto the Crusaders track, Never Make A Move Too Soon. Garner is a smart guitar player playing stylish embellishments rather than over the top riffs. Very cool. Garner takes a Bob Dylan Tune, Lay Lady Lay, and plays it the way Mike Bloomfield would have. Garner demonstrates his interpretive skills in making this track into a deep blues tune and demonstrates that he has not only been listening to Dylan but has absorbed what Bloomfield had to say. Very nice. Garner takes a shuffle run at Blind Blakes Police Dog Blues again showing his ability to see tracks from a totally different angle. Garner plays some really tasty riffs showing his influence by Gatemouth Brown. Garner penned Louisiana Blues has not only some of the delta roots of the old Morganfield track but adds some pretty interesting contemporary guitar and key soloing and getting some trademark Fender sounds from his guitar. On Dylan's Beyond Here Lies Nothing, Garner takes a Latin rhythm and adds some cool jazz style guitar riffs. Silver Bullet is a real cool Texas style shuffle with a jazz twist. Garner shows his chops again sounding quite a bit like Robin Ford on guitar. Another Day In New Orleans has a distinct Mardi Gras jump to it. Played at a fairly quick pace and with Jason Ribeiro stepping up the snare work, the track takes on the smell of New Orleans. Garner again plays very tasteful and fluid guitar riffs. A lot of times the players get lost in the mix and i want to mention that Claudio Corona does a great job on keys. Finishing up the recording, Looking For Something, is a real sweet little blues jam. Garner takes a real nice guitar solo on this track. This is a real cool recording with something for everyone. I particularly like Lay Lady Lay as the strongest track on the cd. Great effort guys!
