I just received the newest release, Long Road Back, from the Todd Wolfe Band and it's quite enjoyable. Opening with Poison, Wolfe picks up where he left off on his 2013 release, Miles To Go with a solid funky rock track and a cool hook. With his own fever pitched guitar work and backed by Roger Voss on drums, excellent key man, John Ginty on Hammond and Justine Gardner on bass this is a cool opener. On Mercy, Wolfe and Ginty blend instrumentally and backing vocals by Gardner and Voss warm up the mix. Blind Joe Reynolds track, Outside Woman Blues, made popular by the Cream during the British invasion makes an appearance on this track with quite a similar arrangement. I actually love this track so having Wolfe do a cover of it pleases me just fine. His vocals and guitar work are clean and the band is tight. Never Walk Alone has a real nice feel with a primary rhythmic theme under the vocal melody as well as hot guitar riffs and warm Hammond backing. Peace Unto You is an acoustic ballad that could easily make cross genre radio play. With nicely blended vocals, rhythmic acoustic guitar, easy acoustic slide and warm Hammond, this track is nice. Fire Me Up is a nicely written pop rocker with some pretty tasty guitar riffs. Straight forward rocker and title track, Long Road Back has a nice swagger and cool vocal duet on the lead vocal. Call and response guitar and vocal paired with bass and Hammond tied together with drums makes for a southern flavored rocker with a pinch of Mountain. Gone has a super swampy feel with Voss on tom tom leading the way. Ginty steps up leading into a more jazzy feel on Hammond and over aggressive bass work of Gardner, Wolfe lays out some of his hottest riffs on the release. Very cool! Gone is one of my favorites on the release with freewheeling slide work from Wolfe. A solid beat by Voss drives the track and Wolfe's vocals and rhythm guitar over Gardner make a cool delivery. One Shot is a power packed rocker with a lot of Hammond drive behind some of the best vocals on the release. Wolfe doesn't venture too far from TDC on this track but that makes for a rock solid rocker. Stephen Stills' Black Queen is full of fire, with a Leslie West attitude. I really like this track and Wolfe sells the track vocally. An adventurous guitar solo from Wolfe and punctuation by Ginty and Voss with a solid driver by Gardner makes this a choice track. Wrapping the release is an instrumental interlude, Hoodoo River, giving Wolfe a nice chance to jam. Gardner lays down some terrific bass lines driving the jam even higher and Ginty fits in to the mix like a glove. One of the quickest 8 plus minutes on tape this year.

TODD WOLFE
BAND KICKS OFF "MILES TO GO"
MIDWEST/CANADIAN TOUR W/ A SHOW AT
HOUSE OF BLUES/CHICAGO, MONDAY, OCT. 13
(CHICAGO, IL)
- The Todd Wolfe Band, one of the hardest-working
blues-rock ensembles in the business, launch their Fall "Miles To Go" U.S.
Midwest/Canadian Tour with a show at the Back Porch at House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn St., Monday, October 13. 8
p.m. $5.00. Show Info: (312)
923-2000 or http://www.houseofblues.com/chicago. Complete tour
itinerary below.
Longtime
guitar ace Todd Wolfe is known for his work with Sheryl Crow (five years as her
lead guitarist in the '90's), as well as Carla Olson (The Textones); and Leslie
West (Mountain), among others, throughout a stellar career. The Todd Wolfe Band
had just returned from yet another road trip - four in 2013 alone, totalling
close to 40,000 miles, from the Czech Republic to San Francisco - and received
year-end accolodes including a "Best Band" nomination from Rockwired Magazine. Wolfe has released seven albums since
1999 and has written songs for acts as diverse as country star Faith Hill and
renowned jam band, Phish.

Todd Wolfe Band Reviewed Live By National Rock Review
(April 2014)
"The beauty
of listening to a Todd Wolfe show is the depth of his musical career; a career
spanning thirty-plus years, honing and toning ‘his’ sound," writes National Rock
Review in a live review of the band's show in Grand Rapids, MI this past April.
"The trio is deep and accomplished. Each member brings a full plate to the
table, with instrument and voice, which makes them sound bigger than a
three-piece. Choral harmonies are layered in 3rds and 5ths that might evoke a
Fleetwood Mac-esque tone yet steeped in southern blues/rock," concludes the
review, which can be read in its entirety here.
"Miles To
Go" (American Showplace Music), represents another music milestone in
Wolfe's storied career. The record's ten tracks run the gamut from straight
blues to post-classic rock, each featuring Wolfe's uniquely rockin' soulful
vocals. Guest performers on Miles To Go (Wolfe's fifth studio album,
eighth total) include noteworthy blues harpist Steve Guyger and organ ace, John
Ginty. Wolfe has truly arrived on his own terms, and as Miles To Go
proves, creating quality music for the world to hear.
What the Media is Saying About Miles To
Go and the Todd Wolfe Band
"Miles To Go" follows the same formula for success so clearly visible in his first release: excellent original material punctuated by world class guitar skills, all delivered via above average vocals. Keep up the great work, Mr. Wolfe, I hope to catch you live and on stage some day." BLUESROCKERS
"Miles To Go has a deep bluesy soul with
a tinge of Southern rock and a psychedelic vibe...'Wolfe's current bandmates are
both incredibly skilled musicians, each adding a unique element to the band's
overall sound."
BLUES ROCK REVIEW
"The Todd Wolfe Band deliver a powerful
sonic experience with the release of 'Miles To Go' ...with a mix of blues,
Southern rock, and even a little soul, the eighth release by this band has me
yearning to hear the earlier releases."
ROCK OVER AMERICA
"Imagine some power trio mixed into a
Texas blues foundation and overlaid with trippy psychedelia...that's the essence
of (Todd) Wolfe's music."

American Showplace Music atrist: Todd Wolfe Band - Miles To Go - New Release Review
I just received the newest release, Miles To Go, from Todd Wolfe Band and it's a straight forward blues rocker. Opening with Nuthin' But You, Wolfe puts up a solid rocker that should head straight to the airwaves and fly high. With a solid hook and flashy guitar work it has what it needs. Sunnyvale takes a step back to a simpler sound with a stripped down bass (Justine Gardner) and drum Roger Voss) part and acoustic guitar and vocal by Wolfe. Locket Full Of Dreams opens with a cool guitar riff with reverb developing to a pretty cool track with vocals by Wolfe, Gardner and Voss. Steve Guyger also adds a nice harmonica texture on this track as well. Howlin' Wolf's Forty Four is up next. The band does a real nice rendition of this including great slide guitar work, military style drumming (adding to the drama) and great vocals. Day To Day is another open road rocker with Chuck Berry like riffs and Eric Clapton like vocals. This is another track that could easily hit the airwaves hard. it has all of the tricks including a good driving beat, grinding guitar riffs and snappy drumming. John Ginty adds some nice organ work on this track as well. I Stand Alone is a basic acoustic ballad with clean finger picking and subtle backing vocals. Stay With Me Baby is a slower blues rocker with a cool swaying groove. The vocal backing on this track is particularly cool and Wolfe plays scorching lead guitar riffs over the basic rhythm setup. Come What May comes out with a bit of a surprise with a distinct Reggae bottom and searing guitar lead work. This instrumental track is really nice break and possibly my favorite track on the release. George Harrison's The Inner Light closes the release opening with Wolfe playing eastern sounding lead guitar work and with changing time signature and what sounds to be Leslie sound effects.
This is a cool blues rock release that should please existing TWB fans and is sure to win him a number of new ones!

Three o'clock Blues - Todd Wolfe Band
Todd began playing on the New York scene back in 1979 with his band, Troy & the Tornados performing in rooms such as the Lone Star Cafe, The Ritz, My Father's Place, Lamour's, The Chance, Tramps, Rodeo Bar and probably any hole in the wall in the NYC area that would book the Tornados.
Todd or 'Troy' and company opened for a bevy of acts such as, Johnny Winter, Robin Trower, The Neville Bros., Son Seals, Dickey Betts, Omar & the Howlers, Gregg Allman, The Outlaws, Smithereens, Zebra, and his first opener back in 1980 , Albert Collins!
Todd decided to head west in 1990 to write and record a demo with a then unknown backup singer named Sheryl Crow. After having that demo passed on by some major labels and not generating much interest after one show case performance, Todd decided to stay in Los Angeles to record and tour with former Textone, Carla Olson. Todd continued to record and perform with Carla and gig with his own blues trio and kept busy scoring soundtracks for the Playboy Channel. Sheryl in the meantime, had finished her first album, 'Tuesday Night Music Club' and needed a guitarist for her touring band which she put together in June of 1993 so, Todd came on board and remained until February of 1998.
In 1996, Todd relocated back to the NYC area and with Eric Massimino, Mike Lawrence and Crow band mate Scott Bryan founded A & M Record's MOJOSON, a modern blend of psychedelic Rock and Blues. Since the Universal takeover of the Polygram group left new A & M acts like Mojoson in limbo, Todd elected to leave the label and dissolve Mojoson, putting his energies into Wolfe, which was born during the downtime from Sheryl Crow tours. Todd and his band, plays aggressive and daring blues tinged jam-rock reminiscent of the bands of the sixties and seventies. Now, with his newest band Todd Wolfe picks up where he left off 10 years ago with his original Bluesadelic-jamming sounds! "Borrowed Time", Todd's fifth album just released by Blues Leaf Records in North America and soon to be released in Europe by Hypertension Music is mostly comprised of original songs including "California" a song that Todd wrote with Sheryl Crow. Also included on the upcoming release is "Baby I'm Down" a Felix Pappalardi song from the first Leslie West album "Mountain". Todd is joined by Leslie on guitar and vocals for the remaking of this song making it a new classic! Also joining Todd and the band on the new disc is Susan Cowsill and Mary Hawkins. Todd's songs have been covered by a diverse range of artist such as, Deborah Coleman, Larry McCray, Faith Hill & Stevie Nicks.
