Rhombus Records artist: Rhythm Krewe - Unfinished Business - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Unfinished Business, by Rhythm Krewe, and it's a cool, laid back blues release. Opening with She Moves Me, Steve Zelman on vocal and guitar sets up a cool shuffle with Jim Blazer on piano, Dave Grover on bass, Danny Pucillo, Jr. on drums, Roy Wiegand on trumpet, Chris Mostert on tenor sax, Chris Jennings on bari sax and Chris Hughes on trombone. Mostert sets off the first of the solo chain with some real rich vibe, followed by Blazer on piano and Zelman on guitar. Strong opener. Little Bit of Heaven has a real nice primitive blues feel starting first with only Zelman on vocal and guitar. With the addition of Blazer on piano, Grover on Bass and Pucillo jr. on drums this track gets thick and meaty. Slow blues, Time of Day, is my favorite track on the release, with warm vocal lead by Gary Coppola and lush guitar work by Selman and tasty piano work by Blazer and full horn backing. Very nice. Shuffle, Prescription For Disaster has a great feel with David Morgan on lead vocal and featuring Zelman on guitar and Chris Rhyne on piano. This track could work well on a radio playlist. Wild Love has a great Latin rhythm featuring Zelman on lead vocal and full horn backing. Pucillo Jr. really amps up the percussion on this one, Blazer adds spice on organ. Cappola's vocal blending is just right and Weigard, Mostert, Jennings and Hughes great horn punch making this a sure crowd favorite. Wrapping the release is slinky, Monkey Toes, with commercial appeal. Coppola on lead vocal and a real nice slide solo by Zelman make this track standout and contribution by all of the players equally make this a sloid closer.

Blue Door Records artist: Victoria Ginty - Unfinished Business - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Unfinished Business, from Victoria Ginty and it's versatile. Opening with title track, Unfinished Business, Victoria Ginty leads this shuffle on vocal with solid sax and guitar solos over a rock solid bass and drum foundation and tight horn work. Take Me Down has a super early spiritual sound with deep rich vocals. Evolving into a funky dance number, Ginty's vocals are solid and backing vocals and horns set up nicely with a really nice guitar solo. Jimmy McCracklin's Every Night, Every Day is a strong blues ballad and possibly the best vocal showcase for Ginty on the release. Grace Lougen plays a sensuous guitar solo giving this track a gripping spark. Very nice. Terrence Trent D'Arby's track, Sign Your Name has a clever Latin fused rhythm with tight percussion and almost falsetto vocals which resonate nicely with a fat sax solo and a clean melodic guitar solo. Smooth. Another of my favorite tracks on the release is Do Me Right with a John Hiatt base feel over a shuffle beat with a bright trumpet solo and a strong rocking guitar solo. Wrapping the release is somber ballad, The Blues Found Me, with a real nice feel. Soulful vocals, warm organ and blues drenched guitar riffs close this solid release.
