I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Blind Pig Artist: Contino - Back Porch Dogma - New Release Review

I just received a copy of Contino's new recording, Back Porch Dogma which will be released on February 7, 2012. This release is made up of 13 tracks, 9 original tracks and 4 covers which include compositions by Lieber and Stoller as well as Tom Waits. The first track, Rotgut Run is a driving boogie and is one that keeps you movin. It is followed by Big Tent, a duet with Maria Muldaur adding her distinctive voice. V-8 Ford is a gut bucket blues (with a bit of polish) and some original Chicago style riffs. Temptation, my favorite track on the cd has a Caribbean style flair. On Zydeco Train Cortino shows their Louisiana roots. Dog Days is a straight forward ballad over piano. One Thing, is a clever song that is sure to get some airplay.Three Cool Cats is a smooth jazz like song with a root in Zydeco. T'Aint sound like it's right out of the Bayou with the Zydeco beat and dance rhythm. Nothing You can Do is a slower ballad type song whith some interesting instrumental overtures (love the trem). I Don't Want To Know is a lot more Chicago than anything else. It's still has it's roots in the Bayou but the Chicago is showing through. Monkey is another song that could easily draw strong airplay. I could definitely see it's strong public appeal. It has the slick tune, cool rhythms and smooth vocals and harmonica. Dino's is more of a throw back sound to the 40's. Overall I think that this release will find broad strong reviews.
