I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Easy Ridin' Buggy - Blind Bud Spires

Benjamin "Blind Bud" Spires, (born May 20, 1931) vocal and harmonica, performs "Easy Ridin' Buggy" in Alan Lomax's van. Shot by Lomax, John Bishop, and Worth Long in Bentonia, Mississippi, August 12, 1978. Mostly seen with Jack Owens, Owens groomed Bud Spires as his harmonica player. Spires, the son of Chicago bluesman Arthur "Big Boy" Spires, is nearly blind and learned to play the chromatic harmonica after Owens bought him one in the early 1960s. He accompanied Owens with a droning chordal style that complemented the overall country blues sound. Although Owens and Spires were invited to perform at festivals around the country, they preferred to play mostly for their own community in the Bentonia area.
